Requirements and Qualifications for Teaching English in Vietnam
They are looking for teachers with a sincere interest in helping their students and who respect and want to learn more about the local language and culture.
Teacher candidates should have a bachelor’s degree. Any subject is okay, but they will give preference to people with education in linguistics, literature or English. The teacher shortage is such that they will be flexible. The chain of schools also requires a TEFL certificate.
What the Job Offers to You
The school offers a choice of locations in a variety of major cities across the country. Hanoi, Hue, Buon Me Thuot, Ha Tinh, Quang Ngai, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and Vung Tau. That should be enough to find you just want you would enjoy.
Wages range from about US$1200-2200 per month with twenty to thirty teaching hours per week. The school will pay for overtime, visa and work permit. They will assist with accommodation.
What the school would prefer from you
They would prefer previous experience working with people from other cultures, that you have tried to learn a foreign language and that you have had some previous experience teaching children or adults. Don’t worry if you don’t have that experience, you can still apply and they still need teachers.
What the school will ask of you
In addition to regular teaching duties the school may ask you assist with school activities that are not classroom related. They say they will want you to be able to work with a wide range of people and groups and ability levels and to use teaching methodology that is appropriate and effective. In other words they want you to be a good and skilled teacher who is willing to adapt to different teaching situations as needed. If you have not yet had TEFL teacher training, you will need to get it for Vietnam.
