Once on the scene, you will find that Czech Republic TEFL Jobs tend to be the most sought after in Europe.  It is the place to be and though an EU member, there are still a lot of Americans teaching there, so some employers can still get you legal working papers even if you are not an EU citizen.

The English teaching scene in Prague (10+ million population) is quite competitive so a bachelor’s degree and a TEFL certificate tend to be required, but away from Prague employers tend to be more flexible.   The competition in Prague means most employers will want a face-to-face interview and some may expect you to start work tomorrow.  Most employers hire locally, so seeking work on the scene is almost required.

Accommodation is not typically provided and employers will prefer a one-year contract.

It is easy for non-EU citizens to find work in the Czech Republic, but getting your work permit can be a bit more challenging.  Seeking employment outside Prague will likely find you an employer willing to do the work required to get you legal.

Split shifts and few working hours are typical starting conditions in Prague, but again, out of the big city, employers will work with you to make life a little easier.

Teaching English in the public schools offers more stability, reliable schedules and wages. A relevant graduate degree, a TEFL certificate and previous EFL teaching experience is usually preferred.  Public school positions sometime offer the rare possibility of employer provided accommodation which means your wages will go much further.

Hiring season tends to be in the summer, through September and again in January and February.  Public school positions are hired during the summer.
