FAQs for Train and Teach in Thailand
In the first week of the course, we assist our trainees with writing their CV/resumes and cover letters. We are contacted by schools and recruiters on a regular basis, and forward all relevant openings to our current group of trainees.
We also maintain a private alumni list consisting of teachers working around the world. We have helped those with and without degrees find legal teaching jobs in Thailand and other countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
The training center is about 400m from the beach, which makes it difficult to find inexpensive long-term housing in the immediate neighborhood. However, we can assist trainees with finding accommodation starting from around $275 USD for the month.
In the low season, we have an agreement with a guesthouse across the street from our training center. In the high season, we can refer trainees to an apartment about 12 minutes away. If you want to stay further away moto-taxis are plentiful and cheap.
Non-native speakers of English need to speak and write English fluently.
They should not speak with a noticeable accent. Applicants should not have any difficulties communicating with native speakers. This can be hard to determine without an interview, and we generally leave it up to the teacher-trainee candidate to determine their skill level.
However, if a candidate would like to schedule an interview, or submit a writing sample, we are happy to assist with determining his or her success in the course and ability to land a job.
Teacher-trainees need to be at least 18 years old and there is no upper age limit. It is harder to find employment if you are under 21 and over 50, but a good in-person interview can break all rules.
No. And most schools will prefer that you not use it in the classroom.
You are hired and paid for your natural skills as a native speaker. Most foreign teachers have only minimal Thai language schools, just enough to get around and take care of life's essentials.
